RICK SENT IN ANOTHER GREAT PHOTO!

Rick Helsabeck states, "Here is a Winter photo taken a few years ago when we lived on Beech, full time. Sadly, many of our Frazier Firs are dying."

See how easy it is. Just send them to Nancy Raymond, captjandn2@yahoo.com. We would love to put your favorite photo's on the BLOG.

WE NEED YOUR PICTURES!

Many BMC members have digital cameras. Send me an attachment of your favorite picture, taken in the High Country, and I will put it in the BLOG. Let us know your name and where the picture was taken. Let us all enjoy it. My name is Nancy Raymond and my E-Mail address is captjandn2@yahoo.com.

Here is a picture of the 10th fairway at the BMC, that was taken while playing Twilight Golf at 6:00P.M. You can see the foursome ahead of us, on the green.

I hope to hear from you.

Twilight Golf

This was the fourth Th of the month, and instead of "Pick your own Partners", on this date, the Pro Shop pairs you with another couple. In earlier years, this was the rule, and we always enjoyed meeting new Beech Mtn Club Members. We had a wonderful time, and played with Steve and Carol Smith, and then had a delicious dinner at the Clubhouse together.

The pictures contain the usual lining up of the carts, but notice the 14th Fairway. The trees are almost out, and it was a beautiful evening. Many of the new cart paths are in the process of being paved. If you are a golfer, come out and play 9 holes on Thursday evenings. It is a scramble and lots of fun. You must sign up on a sheet in the new members room at the Pro Shop, and call the Clubhouse for dinner reservations. We hope to meet you soon!

BMLGA HAS A "STEP ASIDE SCRAMBLE"

Our tournament directors, Judy Spiegel and Marge Payne-Smith, came up with a wonderful new tournament. named "Step Aside Scramble". Teams are made up of four players, and everyone tees off. The best drive is chosen, and the member who hit it, steps aside and lets the other 3 players play the next shot, and so it goes, into the cup. It was fun to play, and perfect for our meeting and luncheon, as almost all teams finished in four hours.

Here are a few pictures. You can tell that a large portion of our 85 members have now arrived on the mountain, and signed up for the tournament. In the second picture, our golf Pro, John Carrin, is standing with our President, Joan Wichman, to make announcements before play. In the third picture, our members are enjoying the delicious lunch in our clubhouse.

Remember, if you are a BMC member and have a yearly beginning Handicap Index of 37.1, you will be welcome to play once before joining. You will be allowed to pay $5 for prizes and participate in that day's tournament. Please call our President, Joan Wichman for information at 387-3656.

Taking photos

Here are a couple of suggestions for good photos. First try to get as close as you can to the subject, even just head shots. Try to not allow bright glare in your photos unless they are side shots. If you can, set your White Balance to cloudy rather than auto or daylight. You will get softer pictures.  Point and shoot cameras have tremendous depth of field but also make very good close ups.

Wish Max a Happy Birthday Tomorrow!

Max Richards officially turns 85 tomorrow! I want everyone, who knows him, to call and wish him a Happy Birthday! Both his parents lived to their high 90's, so Max is going to continue to be an active club member for a long while, and we're all glad.

Happy Birthday, Max!!

TWILIGHT GOLF STARTS WITH A CROWD.

Actually, it was supposed to start last week, but rain began to fall, shortly before tee off time, and it was very chilly. Today was beautiful, and many players turned out to enjoy the fun, and then have a delicious buffet dinner at the BMC Clubhouse Restaurant.

If you are interested in playing, contact John Carrin at the Pro Shop. (387-2372) The first three Thursdays, are pick your own partner nights, and the Pro Shop will pair you on the fourth night. I especially enjoy this, because it gives you a chance to meet and make new friends. Sign up, arrive around 3:30 and tee off time is 4:00.

Come and enjoy the fun!

18 Holers play in 20-30 MPH Winds!!

There were very few cancellations on such a windy morning. We did hold our pretournament meeting in the Fairway Cafe. You will notice that not many trees are out, near the putting green. I have also added a picture of the new 17th hole tees. I think Rory and his staff have done a pretty impressive job.

SPRING COVERED DISH DINNER AND POOL REVIEW

The weather moved the dinner inside but there was ample room for all the people and all the delicious food.

BUNDLED UP 18 HOLERS

The day began with temps in the high 30's, but warmer weather was forecast, the sun was out, and winds were far calmer than the 70MPH of several nights ago. The game was low putts, and these gals came to play! In just a couple of more weeks, a lot more of our 87 members will be on the mountain.

If you are a BMC member with a yearly beginning handicap Index of 37.1, please call our President, Joan Wichman at 387-3656 for information about our group. Join the fun on Tuesday mornings. You must arrive by 8:30 and we tee off promptly at 9:00.

John Carrin, Golf Pro,made a beautiful bench for the BMC Pro Shop

Because the Pro Shop has been completely redecorated, John made this special bench for the dressing room. What is really interesting is that he made it from Wormy Chestnut wood from one of his old barns. He also made a Wormy Chestnut frame on a mirror.

Stop in to see his excellent workmanship, because he has some extra wood and might be willing to make something for you.

WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF THE 18 HOLERS?

An interesting thing happened between taking the pictures and putting them in the computer. I dropped my XD Picture Card on our Den carpet, and neither our computer or cameras would recognize the card. My husband, Jim, reformatted the card. All the pictures were lost. Sorry! If this happens to you, call Jim.

Nancy

P.S. This has never happened before. I guess the 18 holers are just lucky.

It's Official - The Course is Open for the Season

May 1, 2008

A great little nook for trying on shoes or catching up on the games.

The pro shop was put together and ready for business this morning. Yes, that's Dan... ready to ring up the next sale.

The new merchandise is a kaleidoscope of colors.

Ladies, get ready for the new styles this year...they're grrrreat!

Although I missed the foursome that teed off at #10, the view shows what a great day it was today. High 50s with little breeze, the weather cooperated nicely for opening day.

...and the rest of the carts await your arrival. Come on up and join the fun!
