A group of five BMC members went to opening night, last night. All of us have been here for over 18 years and attended many of the past Lees-McRae excellent productions, but we all agreed this was by far, the most outstanding one, we have ever seen. The singing, actors, production, music would rival Broadway. Make sure you call for tickets, today! (898-8709 T W TH-noon-5)

BMLGA-3 JILLS & A JACK SHAMBLE-JULY 27TH
This was a really fun tournament. Each team was composed of 3 BMLGA members and one guy. It was 1 BB of foursome. Jacks used the red tees and 50% handicap. Jills got 90% handicap. All players teed off, and everyone played the rest of the hole from the location of the best drive. We still have many more fun tournaments coming up, and our BMLGA Club Championship will be held on August 9th and 10th.

MORE ABOUT DEER AND PLANTS
This will be the 6th article in this series. You can access them all by scrolling waaaaay down to "Labels" and click on the Deer one. I asked Fred about how to keep Deer off our plants, and what to plant next year. His store mgr, Bernie Krepka replied with this information:
The recipe: There are a couple commercial options such as Deer Off and Deer Fence- Expect to pay anywhere from $15-$17 a bottle, but they both work pretty well. You can make your own concoction. Take egg yolks (whole eggs will work as well) and put in a blender with some water. Start blending and gradually add water so that you have a mixture that is thin enough to go through the tube of a spray bottle. As an option you can add a dash of cayenne. Spray the nixture on your plants. While the plant is wet, it may attract flies, but they will go away once the mixture dries. You will have to re-apply after a heavy rain. My wife uses aged eggs and that is not necessary but it does ratchet up the stink factor quite a bit.
Deer resistant (not proof) plants:
For containers or as ground cover: Creeping Jenny, Licorice Vine (annual), Bacopa (annual), Dead Nettle, Vinca Vine, Spurge.
Shade Plants (perennials): Ajuga, Japanese Anenome, Goats Beard, Astilbe, Japanese Painted Fern, Christmas Fern, Cinnamon Fern, Maidenhair Fern, Bugbane, Lenten Rose, Varigated Japanese Sedge, Bergenia, Brunnera, Lungwort (especially resistant),Columbine;
Sun plants (perennials): False Indigo, Speedwell, Blue Star Juniper, Golden Mop, Barberry, Butterfly Weed, Globe Thistle, Joe -Pye Weed, Yarrow, Oriental Poppy, Shasta Daisy, Monkshood, Catmint, (especially resistant) Black-eyed Susan,Yucca, Coreopsis (especially resistant), Blue Star Juniper, Dusty Miller (sometimes annual, sometimes perennial, Marguerite Daisey.
Thank you so much Bernie, and Fred's. We appreciate it!

BEECH MOUNTAIN MARATHON BRIDGE-JULY 22
Sandy McDonald, the lady in the pink shirt, with the help of her husband, Pete, heads this bridge group. The goals are to HAVE FUN and get to know your neighbors and fellow bridge players a little better.
There are two groups, each has 9 couples, who invite 4 couples to their home individually and play at four other couples homes. Sandy makes out the schedule and players set their own dates. Chicago scoring is used and all scores are E-Mailed to Sandy, who keeps the totals and averages the scores. Only drinks and snacks are served. 8 hands are played with players partner and 4 each with the other players. There are two get togethers at the Alpen Haus with something to eat, and bridge playing, of course.
Thank you, Sandy, for all of your organizational skills and hard work. All of us Bridge players appreciate it!

BMLGA 2ND ROUND MEMBER-MEMBER RINGER TOURNAMENT JULY-20
We had another nice turnout for our second day play of our Member-Member Ringer Tournament. Chief Jim Brooks and Capt. Robert Pudney of the Beech Mtn Fire Dept, came to remind us to sign up to play in the Fireman's Golf Tournament on Saturday August 7th. There will be a Shotgun Start at 9:00 A.M. and the format is a modified scramble. Call the Pro Shop to sign up for this fun tournament.
It was a relaxing day. We only needed to play the holes that we could improve our scores on, and then it was off to a delicious luncheon at the Clubhouse. Check the scores in the bottom picture.
