HERE IS A PLACE TO TAKE YOUR GUESTS!

A short walk in the woods, very close to the exit from the BMC Swimming Pool parking lot, would be a wonderful experience. Cross over the bridge on Greenbriar, and park near Honeysuckle Lane. The Upper Pond Creek Trail is marked with a hiking sign. It's very easy and flat. Hiking shoes are not necessary, but wear walking shoes and take a walking stick. It's about 1 mile long.

If you want other hike ideas, go to Fred's and buy a map of all the trails on Beech for $1.00. It's a great activity for you, your family, and guests.

WOOLY WORM BALL

The Wooly worm Festival Ball will take place at the Beech Mountain Club on Friday, October 12, from 6:00 to 9:00 with the dress being Wooly Worm Casual.

After nearly a fifteen year hiatus, a committee from Beech Mountain, the Avery County/Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiwanis Club will sponsor a Wooly Worm Ball. This will be a benefit for needy chidren from Avery County. The cost is $60.00, which will include an elaborate buffet with several beverages, a DJ, Keith Richardson, providing music for dancing, and a silent auction.

Tickets may be purchased from Mary Jane Borden at 387-9012, Susie O'Connell at 387-2101, or Becky Wheeler at 387-4833. Also, a table will be set up to sell tickets from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Fred's Mercantile on September 29 and October 6.

Please make every effort to join us for a fun-filled evening!

WHAT NEW BIRDS ARE AT YOUR FEEDER?

I have seen two new birds this week.

Pine Siskin http://www.birds.cornell.edu/BOW/PISI/ and

Rose Breasted Grosbeak http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Rose-breasted_Grosbeak.html

Remember not to stop feeding your Hummingbirds. They will leave when they are ready. You are not keeping them from migrating.

SUGGESTION FOR GOLF CART DRIVERS!

THERE HAVE BEEN TWO ACCIDENTS USING GOLF CARTS, IN THE LAST WEEK.

HERE IS A SIMPLE SUGGESTION. WHEN YOU STOP THE CART ON A HILL, EITHER UP OR DOWN, TURN THE STEERING WHEEL A SMALL AMOUNT.

THEN, IF YOUR BRAKE DOESN'T HOLD, THE CART WILL ONLY TRAVEL A SMALL AMOUNT, AND NEITHER YOU, YOUR PASSENGERS, OR OTHER PLAYERS WILL BE HURT.

Grounds and Greens Meeting

The Grounds and Greens meeting was very well attended. Allen Borden, Chairman of the Committee, introduced the other members: Ken Easley, Judy Gallagher, Al Dale, and Bob Josselyn.

Brian Barnes, General Mgr of the BMC, and Rory Ellington, Supt of Greens, gave a report on new plans for the golf course, which Rory will start working on, this winter. If you are interested in taking a look, contact Brian at the BMC office.

THE BMC POOL WILL BE OUTSTANDING!

Here are some pictures of the construction. The design looks very good. A lap section, a middle section, and a children's section. I know all BMC members are looking forward to when it opens, next year.

BEECH MOUNTAIN IS A WONDERFUL PLACE!

Dick Schelberg spoke these words. For those of you, who do not know, Dick had an accident with his golf cart, and was injured. He told me, the other day, that 40 BMC members had personally called him, to check on his recovery.

There just aren't too many places to live, that are like that!

Dick was at the Grounds and Greens meeting, so he is doing just fine. Beech would sure not be the same place without Dick!!

Rory Has Been Busy on the Golf Course!

Here are some of the things he has been up to.

#4 Drainage repair and new sod.

#6 Drainage repair in the middle of the Fairway.

#14 Removal of cart path through the trees.

#14 Building a new cart path on the left side of Fairway.

#16 Drainage repair at the bottom of the 16th Fairway.

#17 Built a beautiful open creek, just before the Ladies Tee. This will be extended into the 18th Fairway, so there will not be flooding damage, as in past years.

Great job, Rory!

Pictures of BMC member George Woodruf on his trip to Chamonix, France just before his surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Looks pretty healthy here. He is the older one with the sun glasses.
Glad he's back and playing good golf!

BMLGA GUEST DAY

Emily Bertisch deserves all the credit for a fun day of golf with no rain followed by a delicious lunch. First there was breakfast, then Mulligans, then all the golf carts lined up, then John saying we were ready to go. Then Champaign and the winners.

NEW POOL CONSTRUCTION

Here are a couple of pictures of the pool destruction for the beginning of a long needed new pool. The old one was leaking and had other costly problems.
