BMC Holiday Party & Wine Tasting

Saturday, December 22nd

The annual holiday party for BMC members was held at the RAR this past Thursday night, December 20th. There were approximately 40 members in attendance for the wine tasting, with Erick's Cheese & Wine supplying the wines for sampling and purchasing.

The Club provided a ham and Lyndsey organized the pot lucks to nicely accompany the ham. A job well done.

Larry Tyner graciously provided me with photos taken of the festivities as I left my camera at home...a first for me!

Everyone had a great time. It was so nice to see that some of our "summer regulars" were here for this event, if only for a short time.

Now let's hope we start getting some snow, since today is the first day of winter!

The administration office has been taking pictures of members to add to their information. The purpose of this is to protect the members from having someone else say they are that member and using their membership. It also assists the staff members in the golf pro shop and clubhouse dining room make sure they are billing accurately. Please do your part. If you have not had your picture taken and you are a Beech Mountain Club member, please stop by the administration office when you come to Beech again and take care of this for them.

#10 tee box
Between yesterday and today I have taken some pictures of the work going on Holes 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18. Brian was busy yesterday making plans for the remodeling of the golf pro shop, many workers were working on trimming trees, planning the new cart barn and tee construction and Rory is everywhere making sure the course will be better than ever when it opens next spring. Part of the tee construction is levelling tee boxes that have settled over the years. #14, for example, had sagged in the front to a 9 degree grade and is now level. New tee box construction will offer many new options for those playing the course.

The course is really looking good and, although I myself am not a golfer, those that are that I have spoken with are duly impressed and provided me with the technical information needed to update you in this article. Judge for yourself. November 29, 2007

Golf Course on 10-20

HERE ARE A FEW LAST PICTURES TAKEN ON SATURDAY. THE GOLF COURSE CLOSED ON SUNDAY, AND I IMAGINE THE COLORS WERE EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL FOR THE GOLF CART TOUR ON MONDAY!

WE LEFT BEECH AROUND 7:00 A.M. ON SUNDAY. THE COLORS WERE GREATLY ENHANCED BY THE SUNRISE. HERE IS AN INTERESTING FACT. WHEN WE LEFT BEECH, IT WAS 61* AT OUR HOME. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN BANNER ELK, I NOTICED SOMETHING WHITE ON THE ROOFS, AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS 39*, AND WHEN WE GOT TO THE 184/105 INTERSECTION, IT WAS 37* I HOPE EVERYONE DRESSED WARMLY FOR THE WOOLY WORM FESTIVAL!

FINAL LAST THOUGHT, AND INTERESTING FACT TO TELL GUESTS. (TAKE THEM TO THE 18TH TEE ACROSS FROM MARGE BAILEY'S HOME..CORNER OF ST. ANDREWS AND BRIARCLIFT) IN MY LAST POSTING, THERE IS A PICTURE OF #18 FAIRWAY WITH A HOUSE HIGH ON THE LEFT HAND HILL. THIS IS HEDY JONES'S HOME, AND IS ACTUALLY LOCATED ON THE #1 FAIRWAY.

I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED MY POSTINGS THIS YEAR. DEBBIE CANADY AND ANN ISLES ARE SET TO REPORT THE WINTER NEWS, AND THEN THE REST OF THE TEAM WILL BE BACK IN THE SPRING. I THINK YOU'LL HAVE TO AGREE THAT BEECH IS A WONDERFUL PLACE, AND THAT IS WHY EVERYONE LOVES IT!
