GOLF COMMITTEE MEETING - SEPT 18TH

Members of the Golf Committee were introduced. Golf rules concerning dress code and cell phone rules are going to be reviewed this winter.  There was discussion of changing Interclub being held on Monday, to another day, because of overtime cost of the clubhouse for holding it that day, but was determined it would remain on Monday for next year. The BMLGA Interclub will be moved from July to September next year.  The Pro Shop will switch from Golfnet to GHIN, effective on January 1, 2013.  John will keep us informed.  It was announced that BMLN members can join the BMLGA with qualifying handicap. HINTS ON FORWARDING YOUR MAIL

My husband and I have been forwarding our mail back and forth between Florida and Beech for 20 years with no problem, til the Post Office switched to doing it by computer.  If it wasn't for Sharon Robbins, Post Master of the Banner Elk Post Office, we still would not be able to sort it out.  I spoke to Sharon the other day, to make sure I was going to do it correctly this year.  Here is her greatest hint:

UNLESS YOU ARE PERMANENTLY MOVING FROM BEECH, DONT EVER CHECK PERMANENT.  Sharon checked my end of forwarding date and it was Sept. 30th.  Luckily, we are leaving that day, but she said to make sure I put in Oct 1st, or I would not be happy.

Go to the USPS.COM site.
Select Manage Mail
Change address
Click "I understand"
Is move temporary:  YES
Start Forwarding Mail:     You might want to call the PO to find out what you said 6 months ago.
The Banner Elk Post Office number is 898-4334 and Sharon is currently working at the Boone Post Office at 262-5149.  You might save yourself some grief and give her a call.  She will be happy to help you.

BMLGA PLAYDAY- SEPT 11TH

After a quiet prayer to honor Sept 11, we played in one of the most fun tournaments of the year.  It was an ABCD Scramble with AB hitting from the white tees and CD from the red tees.  I have been playing at the BMC Golf Course for 20 years, but never from the white tees.  The lower elevation white tees, although further back, did not seem to make that much difference in drive distance, but the higher elevation white tees did.  I would be interested in hearing from other AB players about their experiences.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BEECH MTN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT!

At our BMC Board Meeting, it was reported by Bob Pudney, Beech Mountain VFD Chief, that they are currently raising funds to purchase a new, State of the Art, 12 Lead Cardiac Monitor and Defibrillator and the target is $33,000.

He reported, that "Our current Cardiac Monitor is known as a 3 Lead unit and is well over 12 years old. Although it continues to work very well, the technology is outdated and does not allow us to properly monitor a number of cardiac parameters.

The new 12 Lead Cardiac Monitor enables our first responders as well as the Paramedics to gather important information of a person's heart activity in real time and to be able to communicate critical information to the responding Paramedics and to the Emergency Room Physician.

This critical information allows the use of pre-hospital care and drug therapy as needed during the response to the hospital, substantially shortening the initial life saving treatment time"
You may donate on line: http://beechmountainvfd.org/, or send a check to:  Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Dept, P.O. Box 436, Banner Elk, NC 28604.

And, most important of all, according to Dr. Murry Miller of the Mountain Ambulance and Health Care Foundation, which provides two ambulances with full crew at the bottom of the mountain, they will match all grants made to our Fire Dept for the new EKG.

Please donate on line, or send your checks to the Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Dept, before you leave!

BEECH MOUNTAIN CLUB GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING - SEPT.1, 2012

This is the second part of the report on the meeting.  Bob Pudney, BMVFD Chief, asked for donations for a 12 lead Cardiac Monitor, which will be able to look at all areas of the heart.  It costs $33,000 and he has already received quite a few donations.  Dr. Murray Miller requested donations for the Mountain Area Health Care Foundation.  I will have more information on both of these requests next week. Taking care of our friends and neighbors on Beech, is always a smart decision.
