Garden Club Masterpiece

On the way home today I spotted a dear friend, Suzanne Powell, chatting with a fellow gardener.  I've always been amazed at what those with green thumbs can do with plants and was not disappointed at what they have created at the butterfly garden next to the tennis courts.  A highlight of the garden is Magic Mountain, which reminds me of Ireland's beehive huts and dolmens.

The kids attending Camp helped build and decorate this adorable mountain and didn't they do an awesome job?

Ladies, you have created a work of art and a very special place to relax and enjoy the beauty on our wonderful mountain.  Thank you!!

Tennis Welcome Back Bash

This was the 5th annual Welcome Back Bash of the Beech Mountain Club Tennis
Association, hosted by its president Walter Gassner. In attendance were 113
members, a new high record for the Association. The BMCTA now has 156
members, also a new high record. It has now grown each of its 6 years since its
origination. Tim Smith and his family were there as well as BMC Board President
Craig Hunter and his wife. 

Pickleball: It's Officially Open!

The three new pickleball courts were officially opened this morning.  Many of our members and guests attended to get information on the game as well as were given the opportunity to get lessons on how to play.

The Pickleball Courts are Coming!!!

 The path that used to go from Lakeledge Rd. to the camp huts currently stops where the pickleball courts are being put in.





The ground has been leveled in front of the camp huts.

You can see the area in the back left of this photo where a lot of the dirt was pulled from, then large boulders were stacked for a retention wall.  Behind the retention wall is one of the tennis courts.

Golf Course Improvements Continue

The improvements on the Beech Mountain Club Golf Course continue as weather permits.  Although we have snow on the ground today, a few days ago you could see the work that has been done so far.  #15 green, looking toward tee box.

The greens have been sanded, as seen from front, right portion of #15 green, looking from back of green toward front.

Left front of #15 green, looking from back of green, with enlarged #16 in the distance. has a whole new look with the the rock wall, in front and behind.

#15 green, looking from left side of the green as you approach, to right side.  The ridge that used to be in the middle has been softened significantly.

#16 fairway and green from beside #15 green.  Now has a right side bunker and pitching area behind the green.

The #16 green has been enlarged and completely reshaped.

With no wind, the pond was very still and it appeared the trees were growing upside down.

Butterfly Garden...through the lens of Don Mulaney

I visited the Butterfly Garden, which some of the local residents created here on Beech Mountain. They are doing a beautiful job with their plantings, ornaments, pathways and benches. At this elevation, not too much grows and what does, gets eaten by deer, rabbits, chipmunks, etc.

It's late in the season, so some of the plants and butterflies show some wear.
