Last year the road striping man was misinformed, and stopped painting at the Avery/Watauga County line on the Beech Mtn Parkway. He had not returned, when we left the mountain in late summer. When we returned in middle May, there were no stripes on Kat's Curve. I contacted Dean Leddbetter of the DOT. He did not give me much hope, because the DOT is now down to only one paint truck. I called him a second time, to tell him that we were only speaking of .9 of a very dangerous area, especially to our older summer residents and guests.
Last Thursday, we saw DOT paint signs on 194 leading to 19E. I immediately called him and told him that there was a paint truck right in our area, and could they please come up the mountain and finish the job.
I couldn't believe the stripes on the road, when I drove to church. This is the first time Kat's has been painted before the 4th of July. Actually, it's usually not painted til a month before the first snow, after all the summer people have left. Thank you so much, Dean!
Now the problem is that the Beech Mtn Parkway in the town of Beech needs to be repainted. I have called our Town Mgr several times, and he is always in a meeting, etc. Take a look at how bad the stripes look. Also, Lake Dr. on the way to the BMC Rec center, pool, and Tennis courts needs painting.
The new Town of Beech Mtn Mgr's name is Randy Feierabend and his number is 387-4236. See if you can catch him.
