Beech Mountain Club Golf Course Employee is Burn Victim

April 18, 2008

For those who have not yet heard, Charles "Andy" Anderson severely burned his hand working on some electrical equipment at the BMC Golf Course on Wednesday, April 16th. He was air lifted to Johnson City Medical Center but they do not have a burn unit so he has been transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, 1-800-446-2255. He is in the North Tower, Room 1008, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157.

His wife can be reached at 828-265-2900. Cards can be mailed to Andy at his home address, 122 Jones Dr. Boone, NC 28607-7236. (NOTE: This address was updated 4-28-07 as the previous address given was in error).

Andy works with Rory and many know him for tending their golf carts during the season. We all wish Andy a speedy recovery with the hopes that he has no lasting effects from his injury.

Jim and Rachel Dunn were able to visit Andy yesterday (Sunday) and Rachel provided the following comments via email:

"We went over to Baptist Hospital to the Intensive Burn Center at 4 this afternoon and had a brief visit with Andy. Andy said he did not touch the wire at the pump house but two wires made an arc and the flash hit his left side of his face and left hand. It did not catch his hair on fire. His glasses protected his eyes and
said that his glasses kept him from loosing his sight. Everything was a white haze for a few seconds. His left hand is in a huge bandage and finger tips black (which we could see) but he can move his fingers. He is in a lot of pain and they are giving him medication every 2 hours for pain. The doctors have scraped the burned skin (OH MY) and will do skin grafts this week. It they take he will then be able to leave the hospital. We only stayed a few minutes and he got to tell us the above details. We said a prayer with him for a full recovery."
