THE BEECH MTN GARDEN AND HERB SOCIETY

Members of the Beech Mountain Garden and Herb Society enjoyed a wonderful guided tour of the Daniel Boone Native Gardens in Boone on Monday morning. Candy Scherer organized the trip, which was led by Kit Fisher, Garden Docent and Watauga County Master Gardener. The garden has many habitats and "Garden Rooms" such as a bog garden, a fern garden, a Trumpet Creeper covered archway, and an elegant double border. Some plants we saw included: Golden Seal, Blazing Star. Black Eyed Susan, Mountain Black Eyed Susan, Native Hardhack. peeling bark of the rare Mountain Camellia tree, Native Spiderwort, and Turks Cap Lily.
Reported by Alice Russell, a Beech Mountain Club Member with degrees in this field from UNC, Cornell and NC State. She will be speaking at our August 3rd Garden and Herb Society Meeting.
