There are two new beautifully maintained trails on Beech Mountain called "Chestnut Trail" and "Lakeledge Trail". These were actually built during the winter by Rory Ellington, Supt of Greens, and his assistant, Tommy Taylor. How fortunate we Beech Mtn folks are, to have such talented men working for the BMC. These trails can be accessed at the Upper Tennis Parking Lot/ or on Lakeledge across from Lake Coffey. (our hiking group parked one car at Lake Coffey, and drove another car to the Tennis area, so our hike was mostly down hill. We enjoyed our hike so much, that we continued around Lake Coffey and took the Upper Pond Creek trail up to Perry Park, had lunch and hiked back to our cars. I would suggest a hiking stick (could be a tree branch) and hiking shoes (mine cost $20 at Walmart) for safety. Take water and something to eat.
You do not have to go to the Blue Ridge. Try these trails and give a call to Rory and Tommy and let them know how much you appreciate their hard work.
