FIRST LOW IMPACT HIKE OF THE SEASON

We hiked from Tanawha Trail to Beacon Heights. The hike was easy to Moderate, and I would rate it more moderate. The scenery was beautiful, and it was wonderful to see the hikers from past years. The reward was having lunch on the Beacon Heights overlook. This is a nice short trail to take company on. and would be rated easy. It's uphill, but not long. Go South on 184, left on 221 past Grandfather. Right before the Blue Ridge Parkway, take a left, and the first right on the Blue Ridge, and it is the very first parking area on the left.

Call Recreation to sign up for the Wednesday Low Impact Hikes. You need hiking shoes, walking sticks. lunch, and they'll tell you what else. 387-4208. The cost for the van and guides is approx $8. There are also more difficult hikes to take on Thursday.
