HIGHER TAXES AHEAD!

In spite of a large attendance at Beech Mountain Town Hall today, no Councilman changed their minds. The Taxes are presently .55 per $100. Mayor Rick Owen and Gil Adams only wanted to raise them to .60 per 100, but Randy Corn, Alan Holcombe, and Pete Chamberlin voted to raise them to .64 per hundred. This is a 16.4% tax increase.

The good news about living in a democracy, is that there is another election coming up. Another thought to consider, is the cost of the Buckeye Lake Recreation Center. I believe the mortgage is $200.000 and they are running a $200,000 negative in operating costs, which your taxes are paying for. At the Beech Mountain Club, if costs go up, so do our dues and fees. It's about time to review the cost and fees at the BLRC.
