Two Thoughts from Nancy

1) HOW DO YOU LIKE THE LOUD DUMP TRUCK NOISE?

I live on Pine Ridge Rd., and on most days, there are many, many loud dump trucks going by our home. One of my friends who lives closer to Beech Mtn Parkway, said that she and her husband cannot talk, while they are passing their home.

My idea: I think many of these trucks come up the mountain from Banner Elk, driving completely through the town, and are actually delivering their loads, outside the town, meanwhile causing noise and damage to our roads. Many towns restrict heavy trucks. How about the Town Council passing a law, that any truck making a delivery within the town of Beech Mountain, can use the Beech Mtn Parkway, but all other trucks must use the back road from Boone?

2) HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE BMP BETWEEN THE TOWN LINE AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN AND THE SKI SLOPES?

The road is in terrible condition. Every year, the state does not stripe it til the end of August. Meanwhile our family and guests have to search for the road in rainy and foggy conditions.

My Idea: Have the town meet with the state, and inform them that it is just too dangerous to have an unstriped road with such heavy traffic in our community. This section of the road is only 1.3 miles. Certainly Beech could afford to stripe it themselves or make a deal with the state. Not only is it a safety issue, but the appearance of the road is awful. Every building is in excellent condition, but the road turns Beech Mtn into a shabby appearing community.
